EMPLOYMENT:

2007 - present     Research Scientist, deCODE Genetics, Reykjavik (decode.is).

2000 - 2002, 2005 - 2006     Infrastructure Programmer/Build Master, Zend Technologies, Ramat-Gan, Israel (www.zend.com). Startup company providing products and solutions for web developers and web sites administrators, based on PHP, Open Source web scripting language.
My top achievement there was an implementation of an hierarchical, multi-platform build and packaging system for company's products and 3rd party sources, allowing full control of the build process in a hectic startup environment. Now, in its 6th year, this system is one of the cornerstones of Zend development infrastructure. Besides, on different stages I was involved in a very broad variety of tasks, ranging from system administration to QA to development, and troubleshooting of complex software problems.

2002 - 2005       Senior Software Engineer, ING Bank, Amsterdam (www.ing.nl). Major European financial institution.
My top achievement there was an implementation of a semi-structural layer on top of traditional relational databases, allowing a great flexibility in changing data layout, what was especially suited to chaotic and hardly allowing strict categorization financial markets data. Now, in its 4th year, this system process daily a huge amount of data and is one of the major part of Global Market Database department infrastructure.
Besides, I was involved in programming in C++, Perl, XSLT of financial computations stuff (options pricing, correlations and volatilities of time series, matrix algorithms) and infrastructural things, as well as served as a mathematical guru for the local developers and financial analysts community.

1998 - 2000        System Programmer/System Administrator, Frontline PCB Solutions, Yavne, Israel (www.frontline-pcb.com). Medium-sized provider of CAM software for Printed Circuit Boards industry.
Here again, I dealt with a variety of development (C, Perl, geometric algorithms, databases), infrastructural (in-house tool for automatic installation of Windows NT software, design and maintenance of development environments, merging of forked source trees) and Unix system administration tasks.

1997 - 1998      Internet Programmer, Medialog Ltd., Tel-Aviv (www.leonardo.com). Small web-based travel content provider.
Web site development (ASP, Java, ActiveX).

1995 - 1997       Programmer/System Administrator, Tradmost Ltd., Tel-Aviv. Small software house.
Broad variety of projects: Java-based legacy-databases-to-Web connectivity technology, database synchronization system, established and maintained company's internet site, administration of Novell network.

1991 - 1995       Teaching Assistant & Ph.D. student, Department of Mathematics, Bar-Ilan University, Ramat-Gan, Israel.

1987 - 1990       Junior Researcher, Department of Algebra and Mathematical Logic, Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics of the Kazakh Academy of Science & Teaching Assistant, Kazakh State University, Alma-Ata, ex-USSR.

1984                  Summer Internship at Institute of Ionosphere of the Kazakh Academy of Science, Alma-Ata, ex-USSR.
Numerical solutions of differential equations arising in Cosmic Rays theory.

1991-1995   Bar-Ilan University, Ramat-Gan, Israel. Studies towards Ph.D. in Mathematics (not finished).
Recipient of Bat-Sheva Rotschild Fellowship (91/92) and Dean Fellowship (92/93 and 93/94).
1982-1987 Kazakh State University, Alma-Ata, ex-USSR. M.Sc. in Mathematics.
1978-1982   Physical-Mathematical Specialized High School, Alma-Ata, ex-USSR.
Winner of numerous mathematical competitions for high school and university students, including USSR Mathematical Olympiads, "Kvant" journal contest and USSR Award for the best student's scientific work. Participant and winner of competitions in physics and linguistics for high school students (albeit on a more modest level).
